I am very happy with the Akiles WireMac binding machine. It makes for almost effortless punching - very smooth action, even with multiple sheets of paper.

The "wire closer" part works good too. At first I was skeptical, thinking that having the closer on the back of the machine might make it hard to use, but - to my surprise - it's actually really easy to use.

The other thing that's great about this WireMac machine, is that the knob on top is very precise - there's no guess-work involved. I didn't need to do any trial-and-error to get it set correctly. Because of this precision, it's easy and fast to switch from one size of wire to another size - so you can bind different sizes of books/booklets/whatever without having to worry about losing your settings.

The only thing that I was confused about at first, for about a minute, is that on my 2:1-punch machine, when I first took the machine out of the box, there was a supplemental closer-bar-thingie and I initially wasn't sure what I was supposed to do with it. I finally took a better look at the enclosed directions, and eventually noticed that the slot in the bar just slips right onto the back of the machine. That made more sense than just plunking it down there loosely like I'd done before I read the directions (hard to explain in words, but easy to do). So I got it set on there properly (takes about two seconds once you figure out how), and it's nice and solid, isn't loose and it doesn't jiggle or anything, and it requires no further attention after placing it there. Rather nicely designed little item, actually.

Note: the machine I bought is the 2:1, which means that it punches 2 holes per inch. You can buy a 3:1 machine instead, but for my uses I prefer the 2:1. The 2:1 can be used with larger wire sizes (for thicker books) *and* also smaller wire sizes down to 1/4-inch if you buy, as I did, the specially-sized small wires for 2:1 machines. I'm pleased to report that the WireMac 2:1 binding-machine's wire-closer works just fine for closing 1/4-inch wires, as well as larger wires.

This WireMac machine's "disengageable" punches are a must-have feature, unless you only bind 8.5x11 size paper. But with the disengageable punches, you can bind any size paper, even really small mini-notepad sizes, and you won't get any half-holes or holes that are too close to the edge of the paper. The disengageable punches also mean that you can make custom-size covers for these small items, a little larger than the rest of the item so that the cover overlaps/protects the contents, with - again - holes that are properly spaced from the edges, for a professional appearance. This would not be possible without the disengageable punches.

I'm so glad I bought this WireMac wire binding machine. I've had other much-lower-cost different brands of binding machines which were unsatisfactory and I ended up throwing them out. But the WireMac seems to have no flaws that I can detect, and it works just perfectly for me. I only wish I'd bought it years ago!

I use my WireMac mostly for binding calendars and notepads.

Also, I don't know if I'm allowed to make comments about the seller (digitalbuyer.com) here in this product-review, but I am 100-percent happy with how DigitalBuyer.com handled my order - it was shipped quickly, tracking number emailed to me, order arrived exactly when expected (I ordered several different items), and everything arrived in excellent condition.
